Abstract:Abstract: Objective:To investigate the correlation of rs34713741 polymorphism of selenoprotein S (SelS) gene with the genetic susceptibility of colorectal cancer. Methods:The genotype and allele frequency of the SelS from 119 patients with colorectal cancer and 144 healthy controls were determined with polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), and were verified by sequencing analysis. Then, the difference of genotype and allele frequency of rs34713741 between the patients with colorectal cancer and healthy controls was analyzed, and the stratification analysis of the patients with colorectal cancer was performed. Results:There were statistically significant differences of the frequencies of CC, CT and TT genotypes and C and T alleles of SelS rs34713741 between the patients with colorectal cancer and healthy controls (χ2= 7.598 and 7.134, P<0.05). The relative risk suffering from colorectal cancer with genotype CT was 1.597 times of genotype CC in Chinese population (OR=1.597, 95%CI: 1.096~2.326). Stratification analysis for colorectal cancer showed that the distribution frequency of genotype CT and TT was significantly higher than that of genotype CT in the patients less than 55 years old (OR=1. 870, 95%CI: 1.123~3.313, P<0.05), the female patients (OR=1.953, 95%CI: 1.076~3.545, P<0.05), the patients with distal colorectal cancer (OR=1.617, 95%CI: 1.060~2.466, P<0.05) and the patients with medium differentiated adenocarcinoma (OR=2.070, 95%CI: 1.274~3.361, P<0.05). Conclusion: The rs34713741 polymorphism of SelS is involved in the susceptibility of colorectal cancer, and T allele may be a risk factor of colorectal cancer in Chinese population.
