Correct collection of venous blood specimens is the prerequisite for ensuring the quality of test results. The CLSI GP41-A7 “Collection of Diagnostic Venous Blood Specimens” was published in April 2017. The main changes of A7 include integrating the quality management system principle into its documents and articulating a sequence of chronological procedures that compose the process of successfully and safely performing a venipuncture. A comparison on the differences between A7 and A6 helps to update specimen collection handbook and reduce specimen collection errors.
